The weekend of January 30th and 31st we participated as a group on Winter Field Day.
We set up a two-station operation, on batteries and solar power, from Morningside Park in Fallsburg and participated for about six hours.
Here’s our report and a few pictures.
Hello everyone!
Just wanted to send out an update on how we made out on Winter Field Day. Sebastian W2ASD, and myself KC2OQV setup and operated from the Morningside Dog Park adjacent to Morningside Lake near Hurleyville, NY. We enjoyed the beautiful sunshine that we had but as the sun went down we had to move into our vehicles to keep from becoming frozen hams. We are not going to win any contests by the number of contacts we made but we did manage to make about two dozen contacts on 40M, 20M, 15M, 2M, and 70cm bands between the two of us. We proved that we could deploy our equipment in less than ideal conditions and communicate. We also enjoyed some social distancing fellowship from others in this group. It was nice to see Andrew McLeod and his family, George Kane, Alex Rau, Mark Coleman and his YL, Patrick Smith and his YL, and Steve Bobik and his YL. After the sun went down and as dark approached we broke down Sebastian’s vertical antenna from the fence line and my end fed dipole from a tree. Before we hit the road we were messing around on the UHF calling frequency and heard Patrick, KD2YRX. He asked us to wait so we could chat real quick. When he arrived we shot the bull for a second and then he delivered a radiogram from W2ASD to KC2OQV right there in the parking lot. We had a huge laugh and really enjoyed ourselves like kids for a minute. As we were having some fun Steve NG2B and his YL pulled in and surprised us with a hot pizza! Sebastian and I ate the whole thing and the last slice we both had the cheese had frozen already. Needless to say IT WAS COLD OUTSIDE.
All in all, everyone enjoyed themselves and you can tell that everyone misses seeing other people in such enjoyable (not the WX) settings. We look forward to planning a summer field day event with plenty of warm food, cold beverages, family and friends, and of course topped off with loads and loads of RF!
I’m very proud of this group and the wonderful hamily (thanks Patrick) we have and are becoming.
I will send out the photos in seperate emails as they are too large.

We also had Mark W2COD operating from his QTH, as allowed by the COVID exceptions, but no photos.
We hope to build on our success and participate again next year with more active stations.
